Naptural85 Melanin Hair Care – Black-Owned Business Alert

Naptural85 recently launched Melanin Hair Care and its’s fast becoming a favorite with naturalistas.

This is the final article featuring newly launched black-owned hair care businesses over the last year. Previously, I featured:-

Today, I’m featuring Whitney White’s Melanin Hair Care Line. In case you’re unfamiliar with the name, she is aka Naptural85 online.

I started following Whitney when she first big chopped a while ago and have watched her journey through the years.

While we have different hair types, I always enjoy watching her healthy hair journey chronicles online via her YouTube videos and website.

Naptural85 Melanin Hair Care

She launched the Naptural85 hair products line in October 2018 in collaboration with her sister, Tafetta White.

With the tag, Simple. Natural. Haircare., the line is known as Melanin Hair Care.

The line contains two hair products – a styling cream and a multi-use oil blend as well as a merchandise line that includes a visor and head wrap.

I like that the line doesn’t contain a million products to start with, which suggests she’s taking her time to introduce the whole product line.

In the video below, she shares more about her journey to launching Melanin Hair Care and how she almost gave up on the idea.

Melanin Twist-Elongating Style Cream

The twist-elongating style cream is a lightweight cream that’s supposed to achieve a multitude of purposes on hair – hydrate, seal, detangle and stretch the hair.

The cream contains nourishing oils such as sesame seed oil, castor oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, and olive oil.

Additional nourishing ingredients include shea butter, mango butter, cocoa butter, and aloe vera leaf. There are also no drying ingredients.

I can see this product might be a winner for type 4 hair as well as high porosity hair.

This product also claims to be buildable which means you can get heavy-handed without fearing build-up. If you have finer hair, you may want to apply it lightly.

I would also recommend applying your regular leave-in followed by a little bit of oil before layering the twist-elongating cream over it to style.

If you skip applying a leave-in conditioner, it might dry out your hair.

It is one of the styling recommendations in 365 Days of Moisture for Dry and Parched Hair: Best Practices, Products, and Recipes for Perfectly Moisturised Hair.

Melanin Multi-Use Pure Oil Blend

This oil blend contains some great oils, which penetrate the hair shaft including baobab oil, an uncommon but excellent oil for dry hair.

This oil would work great on its own, as part of the LOC or LCO method, or for styling. You can use under or over the twist-elongating cream.

You can also use it for hot oil treatment. Read Hot Oil Treatments for Natural Hair.

The multi-use pure oil blend comes in an 8 oz squeeze cap bottle and retails for $17.99. Pricey but you shouldn’t need too much at a time.
