Best Sea Moss Recipes for Hair

Sea Moss Hair Gel

For this recipe, you’ll need dried sea moss, distilled water or flower water, vitamin E oil, lavender essential oil, and peppermint essential oil.

You will also need a large glass jar, a cosmetic bowl, and a blender.

You can find the exact measurements for each ingredient in the how-to card below.

Step 1 – Prep Sea Moss

Shred the sea moss into the cosmetic bowl and cover it with distilled water or flower water.

Step 2 – Soak Sea Moss

Ensure all the sea moss is submerged in the water then cover the cosmetic bowl.

Leave in the fridge overnight or for up to 48 hours.

Step 3 – Prep Gel

The next morning, the sea moss will be soft and slimy. Strain from the water and set the water aside.

Place the sea moss in the blender, add some of the sea moss water and blend until creamy and smooth.

Step 4 – Finish Up

Scrape the blended sea moss into a saucepan and set the saucepan on the stove.

Heat up and just before the blended sea moss begins to boil, remove from the stove.

Add in the vitamin E oil, peppermint essential oil and lavender essential oil. Whisk until thoroughly blended.

Step 5 – Store Gel

Once slightly cool, pour the sea moss gel into an airtight jar and use it as required on hair.

Sea Moss Pre-Poo

You can use the hair gel above as a pre-poo. To use it as a pre-poo, scoop the required amount into a cosmetic bowl.

Add in a few tablespoons of coconut oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, or grapeseed oil.

Whisk thoroughly and apply to dry hair in sections, detangle then twist and pin up each section.

Leave it on for 30 – 45 minutes then shampoo and deep condition your hair as usual.

Sea Moss Hair Styler

This sea moss gel recipe is a fantastic hair styler and great for use with the Max Hydration Method

Apply in small amounts to each section of dripping wet hair and work through with your fingers then shake your head to remove excess.

Leave hair to dry without agitation and watch the lovely, hydrated curls manifest!

Sea Moss Deep Conditioner

Add two scoops of the hair gel recipe above into your regular deep conditioner before application.

You can also mix it in with a protein deep conditioner for a moisture boost. For hair longer than BSL, add 3 scoops.

How To Store Dried Sea Moss

To prevent your dried sea moss from going bad, store in an airtight jar like this one and keep it in a cool area.

Properly stored sea moss can last for up to a year.

You can use sea moss in your hair a few times a week.
