I finally tried As I Am Twist Defining Cream and the results and experience were outstanding!

As I Am Twist Defining Cream takes your curl definition to the max and helps you create soft and long-lasting hairstyles without leaving behind product residue.

As I Am Twist Defining Cream is an ideal product for all hair types, particularly for type 4 hair.

I bought As I Am Twist Defining Cream while it was on sale and it sat on my shelf for quite some time while I worked my way through other products.

I got to it a few weeks ago and have been using it to twist my hair after cleansing and deep conditioning for about a month.

As I Am Twist Defining Cream is a great moisturizer but I added a few tweaks of my own after the first use.

I’ve shared these tweaks in this article plus my overall impression of As I Am Twist Defining Cream and how to use As I Am Twist Defining Cream for best results.

The product promises to create highly defined hairstyles, minimize frizz, increase shine, and maximize smoothness. It also helps reduce shedding and thinning.

Some of the key ingredients in As I Am Twist Defining Cream include:-

Castor Oil

Castor oil moisturizes, strengthens, and enhances hair texture. Castor oil also helps promote healthy hair growth.

Sunflower Oil

Sunflower oil minimizes frizz, and softens and smoothens hair. Sunflower oil is also a wonderful emollient.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil prevents protein loss from hair, penetrates the hair shaft, and prevents hair breakage.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is a great emollient for dry hair, seals in moisture, and improves the look and feel of damaged hair.

Amla powder

Amla powder helps prevent shedding and reduces thinning. It also softens and strengthens hair and promotes healthy hair growth.

How To Use As I Am Twist Defining Cream

I used As I Am Twist Defining Cream for twists under a wig.

I applied it on wet/damp hair after shampooing and deep conditioning and twisted it in sections. I then air-dried the twists.

The product was very easy to work with and helped with detangling from root to tip. For best results, do not untwist until your hair is completely dry.

The tweaks I made with this product – after applying As I Am Twist Defining Cream, I applied a little bit of oil and hair butter before twisting each section.

This technique kept my hair soft and moisturized for up to a week!

However, As I Am Twist Defining Cream can also be used for braid-outs, flat twists, cornrows, shingling, and finger coils.

You can also use it after a wash and go without twisting for defined curls.

Additional products you can use over this product include As I Am Moisture Milk, As I Am DoubleButter Cream, or As I Am CocoShea Spray for added softness and shine.

Note – this product will not work well on dry hair. It works best on soaking wet or damp hair.

What I Loved About As I Am Twist Defining Cream

  • Even though I layered other products over As I Am Twist Defining Cream, it did not cause any build-up at all.
  • There were no flakes once my hair was dry. 
  • As I Am Twist Defining Cream does not clog the scalp.
  • The effects last even after you take down the hairstyle. The next time you shampoo, your hair will still be soft and moisturized.
  • You don’t need a lot of product for each section of hair.

As I Am Twist Defining Cream vs As I Am Curling Jelly

As I Am Twist Defining Cream and As I Am Curling Jelly pretty much perform the same task with a few exceptions.

As I Am Twist Defining Cream has a creamy texture while As I Am Curling Jelly has a gel-like clear consistency.

As I Am Twist Defining Cream is better for braid-outs, twist-outs, etc and As I Am Curling Jelly is better for wash and gos. You will experience less shrinkage in this case.

I prefer the ingredients in the twist defining cream although the curling jelly also has some great ingredients such as glycerine and aloe vera leaf juice.
