Curly clip-in hair extensions are a great protective style that encourages length retention, and if you’re transitioning to natural hair, it makes a great companion as well.
Curly clip-in hair extensions are my new go-to protective style for the coming year and I recently carried out a lot of research before I bought my first set of curly clip-ins.
I’m super excited to share my experience with the hair extensions and will be uploading loads of pictures too!

What Are Clip-in Hair Extensions?
Clip-in hair extensions are wefts of hair that can be installed into natural hair without the need for glue or sewing them in.
The wefts of hair are attached to your natural hair via multiple clips on the wefts.
Usually, a set of clip-in hair extensions come in different lengths for the back, middle, and front of your hair.
Clip-in hair extensions are available in different textures – straight, curly, kinky, and more.
What Are the Benefits of Curly Clip-in Hair Extensions?
1. Easy to Install
Curly clip-in hair extensions are easy to install. All you have to do is section and braid up your hair in parts then clip the extensions into your hair.
It takes less than an hour to install a full set of hair extensions, and once you get used to the process, can be installed and styled in about 20 mins or less.
2. Blends Easily with Your Hair
Because curly clip-in hair extensions are available in many different textures, you can find the right texture to blend easily with your own hair.
For instance, I bought a 4A/4B texture for my first set of curly clip-in hair extensions.
3. Curly Clip-in Hair Extensions are Affordable
While some curly clip-in hair extensions can go for as high as $400, you can easily find something under $100. Mine cost around $80 on sale.
And unlike weaves, you don’t need to pay anyone to install them.

4. Can Be Short or Long-term
Curly clip-in hair extensions can be worn for as little or as long as you want. The great thing is you can just unclip it when you don’t want to wear them anymore.
Or you can unclip on the weekend to shampoo and deep condition your hair then reinstall.
5. Curly Clip-in Hair Extensions are Low Maintenance
Hands-off hair care is my jam as much as possible and curly clip-in hair extensions are low maintenance. Just fluff and go depending on the texture.
6. Curly Clip-in Hair Extensions Won’t Damage Hair
Curly clip-in hair extensions won’t tug on your hair and put minimal pressure on the scalp and edges. They are unlikely to damage hair when installed correctly.
7. Ideal for Transitioning Hair
If you’re transitioning to natural hair, curly clip-in hair extensions are a good way to manage the two textures as you grow out your hair.
Take care not to install too many clip-in hair extensions. If your hair is too heavy, it might put a strain on the line of demarcation.

8. Improve Hair Volume & Density
Curly clip-in hair extensions can help provide bigger hair and thicker density instantly if you have naturally thin or fine hair.
Not everyone has naturally full hair and that’s OK but you can help it along with a nice set of curly clip-in hair extensions.
Do not install heavy curly clip-in hair extensions if you have fine or thin hair.
9. Longevity
Curly clip-in hair extensions last way longer than any sew-in can. Properly installed clip-in hair extensions can last for up to 6 months.
Remember, you need to care for them properly to extend their longevity to 6 months. You can’t just install and forget about them.
10. Curly Clip-in Hair Extensions Encourage Length Retention
Since curly clip-in hair extensions are so low maintenance and low manipulation, there’s less chance of breakage from handling your hair.
Less handling means you get to retain more hair in the long run. Don’t forget to still dust your ends in between clip-in installs.
11. Try Out a New Look
Curly clip-in hair extensions are a safe and cost-effective way to try out a new look – a new length, color, or texture.

12. No Tools Required
You don’t require any tools to install curly clip-in hair extensions. No thread and no needles.
Just a good detangling brush to tease out the calls once you’ve finished installing. Or you could just use your fingers to detangle.
13. Curly Clip-in Hair Extensions Can Be Pre-styled
You can pre-style your curly clip-in hair extensions the night before so the next morning, just snap them in and you’re ready to go.
Cons of Curly Clip-in Hair Extensions
- I don’t know if I would count this as a con but you do need to take them out before going to bed. If you leave them in, they can cause damage.
- Curly clip-in hair extensions can cause damage and bald spots if you don’t move the position of the clips around every few days. The same way you would reposition a bun every few days.
- If you are suffering from hair loss issues, do not use clip-in hair extensions! They will cause further hair loss. Focus on recovering from hair loss and getting your hair and scalp to healthy before trying out clip-in hair extensions.
Where to Buy Curly Clip-in Hair Extensions?
You can buy curly hair clip-in hair extensions on Amazon. Below are my top 5 recommendations. They are all under $100.
Some people use two packs but I will start out with one pack and see how it looks first.
Up next, I’ll be sharing pictures of my curly clip-in hair extensions install, a review of the brand I tried, and whether I will rock it for the rest of the year or bin it!
If you’ve tried curly clip-in hair extensions, share them in the comments section and upload some pictures!
