If you haven’t heard already, Netflix is set to release a movie about natural hair entitled – Nappily Ever After on September 21, 2018.
The movie is based on a novel of the same name written by Trisha R. Thomas. I was quite intrigued by the news and went digging for more information.
I’ve not read the book but the movie is a romantic comedy, which involves Sanaa Lathan playing the part of Violet, a woman trying to balance life, career, her relationship, and her hair.
However, something happened along the way that made her shave her head in a liberating move.
As someone who has shaved her head before when life was just way too much, I get this and understand the premise behind the movie.
I was already natural when I shaved my head though (a hilarious story for another day).
The movie is being hailed as a positive step in helping young black girls embrace their natural curls.
The movie also stars Ernie Hudson, Lyriq Bent, Lynn Whitfield, Ricky Whittle, Camille Guaty, and Brittany S. Hall. Check out the official trailer for Nappily Ever After below:-
